DO YOU KNOW WHAT IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT COMPONENTS OF CANE FURNITURE?

It is the Bases!
What are the differences?

The bases are the most important part of the furniture. These are what support the cushions but also add strength to the frame.
So what questions need to be asked about the bases.
Are they hardwood?

Industry standard is to use softwood for cost saving, see the pictures below.
Are they screwed into the frame or just sit on plinths?

Webbing - is Pirelli webbing being used? As this is universally recognised as superior webbing.

What guarantee are you offered with the bases. As once they fail there is no going back and you will have to build your own base to replace the broken one.

The bases rely upon the frame they sit in, after all a chain is only as strong as the weakest link. See below the pictures showing cane dimension, quality and methods of joining frame and bases, this is critical to being able to offer a lifetime guarantee.

Grade A cane which is thick and dense enough to screw the bases into all sides. Additional support on cane noggins at each corner.

We use only Hard wood bases. At Cane Direct we use Mindi wood taken from the heart of the tree where it is denser and much stronger (identified by darker red colour).

We use only Pirelli webbing, the best you can buy.

All of the above contribute to a frame that is durable and strong enough to offer a lifetime guarantee, which is not the industry standard.

Softwood bases are identified by pale timber which is half the strength of Mindi hardwood and have a tendency to split.

Short plinths supporting the base are attached only by front and rear because the industry standard is to use Grade B cane or less, which means they cannot screw the bases into the frame, they can only rest them onto the front and rear plinths.

Non Pirelli webbing can stretch and sag.

Some companies also believe that you can offer better quality bases by using springs, this is not the case, if you look at the construction of the base and how the springs are attached, you will be able to see, that in a short period of time the springs will start to sagg in the middle. Unlike a lounge suite there just isn’t the support around the base to stop the springs giving in the middle. Thus again you will be looking at having to change your furniture in a short period of time.

Here is where customers cannot see, underneath the furniture, which is probably the most important part of your furniture. The base is what takes all the weight. People do not always sit down gently on furniture, and if you have not got a good quality base they can soon split, look at the photos, and see what can happen. The photos on the left in both pictures are used by most of the 5 main suppliers of cane furniture, The base on the left spilt after only 6 months of use, the one on the right is used by Cane Direct, look at the difference in quality. That’s why we can give a LIFE TIME GUARENTEE ON OUR BASES, Do not purchase any furniture with this type of soft wood base, because once they split, you cannot get replacements, thus leaving your furniture useless.

ASK THESE QUESTIONS.

ARE THE BASES MINDI HARDWOOD?

DO YOU USE PIRELLI WEBBING?

DO YOU GIVE A LIFE TIME GUARENTEE ON YOUR BASES?

ARE THE BASES SCREWED IN TO THE FRAME?

BEFORE YOUR PURCHASE ASK FOR A PHOTO SO YOU CAN SEE IF THE BASE IS RED IN COLOUR OR PALE,(PALE BEING SOFTWOOD)
