Cane Direct - Cushion Quality
There is a huge difference between good and poor quality cushions. The problem is what criteria do you use to assess quality? At Cane Direct we give a 5 year guarantee with all our cushions.
Foam
The first criteria is the quality of the foam used, like anything in life quality costs more. It is often the first casualty as the cost differences are significant and unless you are educated on foam you can not see the differences until 12 months later!
Cell structure degrades more quickly on cheaper foam leaving you with unsightly baggy upholstery with little support and comfort. An unsightly suite is a poor reflection on the investment in your conservatory leaving it an unwelcoming area of your home.
Specification you should ask for is as follows -
- Do you use 'V34' Vitafoam reflex foam?
- Do you use 7 inch foam? industry standard is 5 inch.
- Do you guarantee your cushions against collapse?
Upholstery
Next you should be asking about the quality of the upholstery and this means not just the fabric!
Are your cushions over locked at the seems? In layman’s terms, stitched from the top and then turned and stitched on both sides of excess material inside the cushion. This means your cushion is stitched four times not once!
This means your cushions will not tear or come apart under normal use very important especially when you find out how much it costs to re upholster.
Are the cushions fully piped for strength around the whole cushion? To save costs often only the front panels as you face the cushion are piped. This looks ok on the first look in a showroom, or on the web.
You need to be asking for piping on all sides top and bottom front and back otherwise there is no sidewall support retaining foam shape and leaving it unsightly!
You want to ask for cushions that can be unzipped for cleaning avoid button techniques this is where the front and back of the cushion is connected under tension through the foam which means you can not remove the covers to clean.
The back cushions - industry standard is to place the zip in the middle of the cushion which means they are not reversible which means you only get half the life span out of the fabric.
Cane Direct does not, we zip at the bottom and have a second middle zip concealed inside so you can turn them. Thus giving you twice the life span.
